"Uncertainty is the refuge of hope." ~Henri Frederic Amiel The past couple weeks have been anything but CERTAIN. Normality has gone out the window and the uncertainty has taken over. When is it going to be over? What's the next step? Who is telling the truth? When will we have answers? And here's the craziest part...to all of those questions there is no definitive answer. But...that doesn't mean there's no hope.
I posted this picture on my personal page a couple days ago and since then it has become something all of us at Coastline have found hope in. I didn't go into great detail but the reason I chose this picture isn't JUST because of the cross. It's also because WE are out of focus. When you look at this picture the people are unknown...but the cross isn't. The cross is never failing and it's message is never ceasing. When people, and the world, and situations around us are unknown and uncertain, the cross and THE God that sent His Son to save us is not. It is a symbol of refuge and hope. Refuge for the world and hope for the future.
The truth isn't fun sometimes especially in times like this. But, what we have to remember is that the truth of the world NEVER takes precedence over the truth of that cross. 2 Timothy 1:7 says: For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. We weren't created to fear the things of this world. We were meant to conquer them. But how? That's the part a lot of people are missing right now. With LOVE and SELF DISCIPLINE.We can't and won't conquer this or anything else in our world without those two things.
Love those around you. We were created to show God's love. Preaching wrongs and rights and frustrations isn't going to do it. Love is what humanity needs. Love is what we all need. The reason that cross is so important and the symbol of our faith is because of the unfailing love it took to die on that cross. THAT is our message. Unfailing love.
And, self discipline. Showing love doesn't always mean what you think. Sometimes doing what's inconvenient for you is what's best for others. We all need to understand that. In times like these, and honestly more times than not, IT"S NOT ALL ABOUT YOU. Sometimes what we all need is to take a step back and realize how a minor inconvenience for us could be a major breakthrough for someone else.
Uncertainty is hard There's no way around it. One of the most common fears is the fear of the unknown and that's where we are right now. But, at the same time. We can find hope in this with each other. Let your creativity run wild. Think of new things to do and new ways to reach people. Think of new ways to love on your community and the people in it. Join together and do what's right for others. Not only can you become a better person but the world can become a better place in the midst of uncertainty.
